Flashing lights are often an indicator that there is a problem. When they are ahead of a driver, it is a warning to watch out and possibly move over. However, when these flashing lights are in the rearview mirror, it is often a warning to pull over so that a North Carolina police officer can address something with the driver.
Recently, one North Carolina couple saw flashing lights in the rearview mirror of the Toyota Camry in which they were riding. Apparently, the driver pulled over as indicated. However, something apparently caused the officers to suspect there was a problem. After a K-9 officer searched the vehicle, the couple was arrested.
According to North Carolina law enforcement, the K-9 officer discovered an undisclosed amount of hydrocodone and methamphetamine in the vehicle. The two people were then charged with felony possession of these two drugs in addition to drug paraphernalia. Based upon these charges, this couple will be required to answer to these charges within a court of law.
North Carolina resident in a similar position can benefit by working with an experienced defense attorney. Questions regarding what led to the initial stop and decision to search the vehicle need to be investigated. Additionally, the evidence itself will need to be reviewed along with the reports indicating that any substances seized were actually the drugs indicated. Charges of drug possession can have serious consequences for the individual if convicted; therefore, they should be taken seriously and a proper defense should be presented.
